Great Design: UNIFOLD’s Printable Shoes

3D printing machines may be the future of design, but a new project from the Pratt Institute called UNIFOLD is a nice return to the basics.

UNIFOLD is an experimental project that, “explores ways to construct footwear with a one-piece die cut pattern.” The footwear is designed to dramatically cut production costs so that those in developing countries could potentially have better access to shoes.

It is brilliant origami in its most utilitarian function, yet strikingly beautiful in form. See the photos below.
