Devendra Banhart is a 31 year-old folk-rocker that is performing in Santa Ana at the Observatory on May 23, 2013. His music encompasses Latin and rock influences, from bossa nova and funky guitar strings to Spanish vocals.

His most current album is Foolin’ (2010) but I also recommend listening to his first album Smokey Rolls down Thunder Canyon (2007) which features Carmensita (Video features Natalie Portaman, his ex-girlfriend).

This guy is great! He even designs his own art for all of his album covers. His drawings have been showcased at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and in the Centre for Fine Arts, Brussels.

I admire this guy and I can’t get enough of his music. As a Spanish major it brings me joy to see Latin-American artists use Spanish in their creative works.
